Project Background

Ethiopian Birr banknotes are widely circulated, featuring a mixture of new and old notes with heavy wear and creases. The local banking industry sets strict tender requirements on counting speed, multi-level counterfeit detection and adaptability to harsh operating environments. Ethiopia's leading commercial bank launched an open tender for financial equipment across its nationwide branches, requiring devices with UV and MG dual counterfeit detection, high-speed counting, dust resistance, compatibility with fluctuating power voltage, and support for future firmware updates for local currency.

Project Challenges

Ordinary banknote counters on the market tend to jam, produce counting errors and miss counterfeit notes when processing massive worn and creased Birr notes. Ethiopia covers a vast territory with branches spread across urban and rural areas, featuring heavy dust and obvious power grid voltage fluctuations. The bank project demanded mass delivery, complete bidding documents, spare parts stock and long-term localized technical support.

Our Solution

1. Customized hardware and software: dual anti-counterfeiting modules with specially tuned recognition algorithms for Ethiopian Birr. The high-speed bill-feeding mechanism was optimized to greatly reduce jamming and false alarms caused by worn and creased notes.

2. Enhanced hardware anti-interference design adapts to African voltage fluctuations, enabling stable continuous operation under dusty working conditions.

3. Complete standardized bidding documents and strong mass-production capacity ensure on-time delivery for large-volume orders.

4. We provide exclusive currency firmware upgrade packages, comprehensive technical manuals, sufficient spare parts inventory and a remote technical support system for future updates of new-version Birr.

Project Results

Our banknote counters successfully won the bid for the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia project and were deployed in bulk to bank branches nationwide. With high-speed processing and reliable UV/MG dual detection, the units fully withstand harsh field conditions in Africa. This has become our landmark banking project in East Africa and further consolidated our position in Africa's bank-grade cash handling equipment market.
